The Tea Towel Holder... 10 minutes to Sanity!

Don't forget about the GIVEAWAY ending today!!!

Okay so in our new house my hubby liked to place the tea towel on the oven handle, my dog, cat and two babies like to remove it, Peyton used it as a veil or cape and Joshua used it to play with the dog, the cat used it to sleep on and I refused to use it... so I needed another option. While in recovery my mom would clean my kitchen and house and she would place it through the top cupboard handle. Now that I am a bit better I saw a similar idea with a knitted top... but I KNOW I CAN'T KNIT! I can sew yes but knitting is just um... no... so I used a pot holder... a button and a tea towel... now we never have the tea towel on the floor.

All you do is baste your tea towel down the middle, then pull the bobbin thread to make it ruffle, then sew it to the pot holder. Do a blind stitch for the button and DONE!!! 10 minutes to Sanity!

I made these for the teachers at Joshua's school, and one for my mom, mother in law and friend (Elwynn's mommy)and she was going to give it to her son's teacher... but she fell in love with them just like I did... really once you use it you can't help it!!! They are fabulous and everyone who sees it will say how awesome they are!

PS. I have the blue towel in my kitchen... love the colours for summer... and I added a lady bug button!!!

REMEMBER!!!

Each post (thats right POST!)I am going to do a small giveaway.... to enter become a follower and leave comments.... the winner will be selected by these comments. Tell me if you liked what I made, would you use it... did you make something similar, would you like me to check out your blog... anything really... if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything... but I can think of lots of things to say... just leave your favorite food, day or colour... (mine is pedal pink oh so pretty, or yellow, blue, purple, green oh I love green... ok well sorry for that) Once I hit 25 followers I will do a big giveaway!! So lets make this happen people!

The New but Old Dresser

When I found out I was pregnant I knew I what I wanted as a theme for my babies room. I have always loved the stars and moon, my grandma who lives in Alabama (and I in Vancouver Canada) said when we moved here that no matter where I am in the world I can always look up to the moon and know we are looking at the same moon, the same stars and we can do that together every night. This created an obsession of staying up all night looking at the beautiful.

For Joshua's nursery I painted two walls a bright blue and two walls a navy blue, I then stenciled stars on the wall... I then took my dresser from when I was a little girl which was white and painted the navy blue for the dresser and the light blue for the drawers. I took the stencils and did the stars on the dresser. I loved this look so much that when we moved I re-did the room in our new house. But again we moved and it is time for a change and to move on. So I gave the dresser back to my dad who is the most amazing wood worker and he revamped it.

I chose a bright red for the dresser as Joshua's new room is in a red white and navy blue, and I wanted new metal cup handles. My dad fixed the drawers and as well as plugged the old holes for the handles and painted the whole dresser with a special plastic paint that makes it so that it is highly durable.

While I am still working on his room and waiting for Chris to paint at least the dresser is done... so here after all that take a look!!!

Before and after!

As before EVERY POST WILL HAVE A GIVEAWAY! You must become a follower and make a comment. On Saturday of every week I will pick a winner from each post with comments... once we hit 25 followers I will do a big giveaway....

Dollar Store Remake... And Giveaway!

Don't forget about the GIVEAWAY ending today!

I am making little projects here and there for Peyton's room... Chris spent a lot of time painting our new house (thanks babe) and then a few weeks ago he did Peyton's room. A light shade of pedal pink... look at a light pink peonies and that is the exact colour... this room will take time... especially because my back has a mind of it's own... so it will have to be a collection of small projects.

Okay... so the rant is done.

I found this little sign the other day at the dollar store and I fell in love with it... it is cute in black and white but I wanted something a bit different for Peyton's room. So I took the primer and the pink of her room... so scrap fabric I had hanging around and here is it.

I painted it with the primer because I wanted to cover the black as well as I didn't want a gloss to it that the other white in my house would have. After that was all dry I painted the pink over top and along the edges, I wasn't at all particular how the pink went on because I wanted that type of shabby look.

Afterwards I found some of my favorite fabric and cut three strips of it put a safety pin through one side and just braided it. I looked around for my stapler (cause I have the worlds best) and couldn't find it... (thanks babe) so I just super glued the ribbon to the back where the old ribbon was.

I really like how this turned out... I saw a few other signs there... who knows maybe I will get some more!

Happy Tuesday!!!

Oh and here is an amendment...

Peonie Pins...

Just a little morning craft... I am in love with these and can't stop wearing them... they make me oh so happy!!! And such a great way to spruce up an outfit... the black/grey and pink one is mine... and the purple/white and teal is Peyton's. I attached a pin to mine and a hair clip to hers... as she is almost 2 I highly doubt that she will wear it on her shirt... but still OH SO CUTE!

The Sophie Pillow....

Front

So here you guys go... another pillow. This pillow was a request of my co-worker... it was for her dog. She saw the Elwynn pillow and liked it so much that she asked if I could make her one for her dog... I of course said yes.

She really wanted something funky and asked if I could do a dog bone shape, originally I said yes but after my visit to the local fabric store it wasn't possible. She wanted zebra print and there was simply no zebra available. So I bought zebra ribbon and sewed it to a black 1.5 inch base... then sewed all those strips together. This took so much longer than I thought it would... I followed a pattern and tutorial from here however if I were... and I would, make this pillow again I would make a few changes.

First cut you white back ground 11.5 inches not 10.5 (10.5 is really hard to put most names on unless they are either short or you have much smaller font... but lets face it this is a NAME pillow so we want the name to be bigger).

I cut 42 1.5x 3 inch strips... in 3 different fabrics... I would not do this the same... it takes so much longer, personally I would do... ( and I hope this makes sense)

I would do as many at the same time as possible... so you need 13 on top of your alternating colours...

so: 13 strips of 1.5x 6 inches... once they are all sewn together... cut them at the 3 inch mark... then repeat for the sides... which were 6 strips....

Does this make sense???

Applique was I guess easy... I was just having one of those days and was too stubborn to give up... I redid the back (black side) 3 times... yep that's right 3 times... I was not a happy person.

So this is it... other than those changes I loved making it, and I AM IN LOVE with how it turned out...

Have a great day!

Awesome Towel Hanger for Joshua...

So I stumbled accross this little tutorial for a towel hanger and just had to make it myself. I have felt really over done with the daily stuff and my wonderful mom came over today for 2 hours and the sweet heart that she is she let me have a "break" and go shopping... where eles would I go but to my local craft store. The cashier Kim (yes I know her name) saw me and just laughed and said "you really like it here eh?" UM YEAH!!!!

I had to focus, not buy too much, just get what I needed for the project. I had already purchased the paper (Bo Bunny) and I loved it, so all I needed was:

1. wood frame
2. mod podge
3. sponge brushes
4. a knob for the "hanger" part.

After 30 minutes I had this little gem... yeap that is all it takes and you have yourself an amazing custom hanger. I also stopped off and picked up towels and I am making the kids custom towels as Peyton's hanger is on the way.

If this interests you check out Ash & Aly website and check out her tutorial. I did a few changes and when I make Peytons I will do the tutorial so all you guys can try it.

OH. PS since mom saved my crafting butt I gave her the yellow apron from yesturday... it made her so happy...

Not Your Grandma's Apron.... But I am sure she would love this one...

So I know I have left some teasers about how I am making the adult verson of the My Lady Lane Apron.... we I did it last night.... It is so pretty with the black, yellow, white and touch of grey. I added a backing to this one, which I didn't do to Peyton's, but I think that it really adds to the overall finished look.

I love that the ties are extra long so that you can do a knot or bow in the front or a big beautiful one in the back. This apron leaves nothing to be desired, it has double stiching, pleated ruffles and eye popping mix of patterns. I am so very proud of these and happy to announce finally... that my new company "kate pixley desgns" is now open for buisness and the Lady Lane Apron big and small are for sale. Each week I will be adding more and more... as well as the personalized pillows, I have 5 orders which is great because I will have lots of different ideas to choose from. I even have a order for a pillow as a gift to a persons dog... and let me tell you this pillow will be amazing!

So keep checking in, if you would like to place an order let me know, at this point we are working out the new website.

Thank you and lots of love. K

Tech Support For Installing A Husband

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail. What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate

———————

Dear Desperate,

First, keep in mind that Boyfriend 5.0 is an entertainment package while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter the command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html, download Tears 6.2 and be sure to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If those applications work as designed Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. However, please remember that overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0, or Beer 6.1. Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (It runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.) In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0-program. This is an unsupported application and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck!

Summertime and dresses....

Sorry I have not posted new projects but we have finally gotten some sun here in good ol' BC and I was sure gonna absorb some. As well Joshua had a hospital appointment ALL DAY TUESDAY so that day was shot!!! But here is my latest creation... As well if anyone wants a tutorial or pattern let me know and I will do one for this dress.

So my little darling loves to wear dresses... I personally think they are wonderful because you never have to remove all those layers of clothing to get to the diaper... YES US MOMMIES THINK ABOUT THAT... well my mom bought me some scrap fabric and I am trying to use all of it in really interesting ways... I think... the white on her top is just your basic white 100% Cotton... I layered it x2 and then added a decorative stitch. I did the same thing on the straps and then in the back just cut out a panel so that it would be able to go on and off easily. I put it on her and it is a little more snug then I would like but she can wear it this summer! Thanks for reading!

From Signs of Love to Words.... Our Journey Part 12

So yeah Joshua said "Hi" and the excitement was through the roof, I was screaming Chris was laughing and Joshua went on repeat and I swear that word will always hold a sweet place in my heart. This word which was so small had such a presence and meaning for our little family.

We called all of our family and friends and while most were out so they had messages it was amazing to hear the screams on the other end of those calls. What made the whole moment so much happier was that Joshua knew what he was saying and that we understood him. This was the first of many.

By September I was dropping Joshua off at preschool and his teachers all waited eagerly to meet the little boy who signed... only to be greeted with a "hi." Just one month prior he couldn't say anything and now he had about 10 words. Each day a new word each moment a new sound, he was like a desert tasting water for the first time in years absorbing every single sound big and small.

I will never forget the day that I picked Joshua up from school and his teacher said, "he learned how to say his colours," Joshua runs out of the class room and screams "HI MUMMY, AHHAHAHA BLUE, GREEN, YELLOW, RED, AHHHAHHAHHAHH" With tears streaming down my face I turned away so that he didn't think it was making me sad, I held his sweet little hand and walked him to the car. While in the car I asked every colour I could think of and then I said "aubergine".... and it was silent, then with a clever little smile I got "auber ene."

Now the trying of new words may not sound like world class news but to us it was. He never tried to imitate me, if I said something that was too hard he would never attempt or TRY. We have a very sweet little saying that Joshua has and whenever Peyton falls, or I miss a step in whatever I am doing... or when he attempts something and does not succeed he always reminds us to "TRY TRY AGAIN."
