New Bathroom Part 2 {New Floors}

Okay so the floors are next.

This did take some time, but once I gave in and used my quilting tools it became a little easier.

I decided to get peel and stick tiles just from my local hardware store. They are inexpensive and have a guaranteed life of at least 7 years. As well, if one gets damaged I can replace just that one. The box says for 100sq, but it is actually much less than that if your bathroom or kitchen isn't a perfect square because you have to cut the tile (really easy just an exacto knife and a ruler, score it and then it snaps off) so you can only use two edges because they have to be perfect to line up with the other tile edges. I had about 7 tiles left in the box... and it only cost me $41 cdn for the floor.

Before I did the floor I used TSP to make sure all the grime and crud was off the floor. If you dont do this it won't stick and you will waste a tile, money and the time cutting the tile... so take 30 minutes and do this extra step... You will thank me.

After I used the TSP on the floors and the baseboards I repainted the baseboards and bright crisp white.

Then I started to lay down the floor. I was SUPER lucky that the lino already on the floor had lines so I didn't have to mare the midsection. I just took my first tile and started to lay it down.

It did take me two days... but thats because I became frustrated and didn't want to mess up so I went to bed with a bowl of popcorn and a Greys Anatomy (the one where they sing... SOOOO GOOD... sorry off topic)

I have to admit that the flooring is easy to medium... the CAULKING MADE ME WANT TO HURT SOMEONE!!! I do not like it... I thought I would... but I don't... I don't want to do it again. But I do love love love my new floors.

New Bathroom Part 3 {The Finale}

After painting the new walls a pretty colour which I of course {LOVE} because it looks like Caramel Coffee I needed the finishing touches.

I went with a Europe theme for the pictures, replaced the mirror, dark chocolate mats and a basket for toilet paper and this room was finished.

I started on tuesday afternoon and finished on Friday, I picked hubby up from the airport on Saturday night and suprised him with not one but TWO new bathrooms { I will share next week}... I loved the look on his face... and I love knowing I did it all by myself!!!

This was also on a pretty small budget,here is the break down:
Texture Paint and Suplies: $45
Paint: $30
Flooring & supllies $60
Mirror $39
Two Pictures $50
New Towels $1 {ON SUPER SALE WITH COUPONS)
Extras $25

Total: $250 YAY!!!

Now you know why I was MIA for two weeks... one to do the bathrooms... and the other to recover!

So now I will be away for a few days as I am heading to San Francisco YAY!!! I have never been but am just so excited to go!!!

My New Bathroom

So when we moved into this house last year I had to go in for back surgery so all the little jobs and big ones too had to wait.

Hubby had to go to Toronto for a buisness trip last week and I decided that I was going to suprise him by redoing our downstairs bathroom. There were a few issues with the bathroom:

1. It is really small and also a weird shape. when I say small it is about 40 sq ft....LOL.... TINY!

2. The walls are horrible, they are totally uneven and had holds from the previous owner, and just damaged.

3. There is an UGLY black mirror that I hate but is glued to the wall and if I take it off then there will be even more uneveness....

4. The floors are white lino and stained... I really don't know how you stain a floor in a bathroom.... BUT these are.

I hate HATE hate this bathroom... I never use it, I mean once in one whole year. But as this is suppose to be the bathroom that everyone uses on the main floor I wanted it to be beautiful, open and inviting. And something that when I come down in the moring I don't shutter!
URG.... what to do.

Well, I first the walls, I went to get wall paper but the cost was $400... okay scratch that idea. So my other option was wall texture.... have you ever seen it?
I went out and got Behr wall texture in sand ($40 cdn) and then a straw broom ($3 cdn) and then googled the Grass Cloth technique. Honestly... I LOVE IT. It is So easy and everyone who has seen it loves it. Wall issues are gone, the uneven space behind the mirror GONE! Holes covered up and GONE!!! You need to let it sit for 3+ days before you can paint it... But it looks so so so good once done. {and also looks like a textured wall paper.... but I saved $350 doing it this way!!!}

St. Patty's day arts, crafts and recipes-Rainbow Streamers

Bring the rainbow inside with these fun and colorful streamers. Have a parade, put on some Irish dance music, or just enjoy the bright colors flowing in the breeze.

What you'll need:
1 paper plate
Paper streamers or wide ribbon in rainbow colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple)
Scissors
White craft glue
Piece of ribbon for hanging
How to make it:
Cut a large circle out of the center of the paper plate. You will end up with just the rim of the plate.
Cut 1 streamer or ribbon of each color about 18" long.
Glue each streamer to the bottom half of the circle.
Poke a small hole at the top of the circle and thread a piece of ribbon through it. Tie a loop in the ribbon and hang up the streamers.
Tips:

Use a pencil or pen and pressing firmly on the paper plate, draw the circle to cut out. Pressing down firmly will make a deep indent making it easier to cut out.
If you like, cut the ribbon or streamers twice the length, then drape through the circle and glue at the center. This will give you double the hanging streamers and you can display from either side.
Foam plates are nicer for this craft than paper as they have a smooth outer edge.

St. Patty's day arts, crafts and recipes- My Little Pot o' Gold

My Little Pot o'Gold
This project developed out of the tradition in some families of setting a Leprechaun Trap... where you decorate a the bottom of a shoebox and set it up on a stick to trap a Leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day. If you catch one, he's supposed to leave you some "gold." We decided to make these little pots for him to put the "gold" into.

What You'll Need:
2 Heavy paper plates
1 - 12 inch black chenille stem
Black paint
Scissors
Paint brush
Stapler
What to Do:
1. Put the two plates together with the eating surfaces facing each other. Cut the top third of the paper plates off and discard.

Cut two little notches in the sides and round one side to make a pot shape. Take a look at the picture if my directions are confusing. (It's a little hard to explain!)

If you're making these in a class, you may want to just create a template and have the kids trace the pot onto each plate and then cut them out.

2. Staple the plates together around the rounded part... don't staple the notches yet.

3. Bend the black chenille slightly to make a handle and staple each end into the notch as you staple the notched edges together.

4. Paint the plates black and let dry completely.

Now each child has their own pot to put their gold into!

You can put gold chocolate coins in the pot to surprise children with. If you're planning on "catching" a Leprechaun, he can buy back his freedom by putting some gold chocolate coins into the pot.

New line YAY! & website & free advertising!

So I have been busy with amazing projects ones that I am so excited to share with you guys finally!!!

Project one: I made my website and it went live last week!!! {YAY} www.katepixleydesigns.com is ALIVE! It has taken so long to pick the header and get eveything worked out the way that I wanted it to. It is a free site, www.weebly.com, which is awesome if you are looking at making your own site.

The second I am TRILLED about!!! I launched my wedding line: Morning Doll by Kate Pixley features exclusive one-of-a-kind wedding veils, ring bearer pillows, garders, ties, and much much more! I was picked up by a local wedding boutique and we did the shoot on friday {it was the best working day of my life.} My website has a new blog with exclusive behind the sence pictures of friday and some of my new products!!! Go over and check it out!!!

So on my new website I have a new blog, it will have a lot of fun stuff, I really want to support the handmade commutnity, I know how important it is! So while we are all starting out I wanted to offer some free advertising to anyone who has a handmade business.

How to: Quit your day job... Hopefully!

Ruffles, Lace and Feathers OH MY! I have been working hard behind the scenes here getting ready to launch my new line on Friday, and open up my website.

URG... websites. Have any of you opened your own yet? I was going to hire someone but the cost was so high that I posted on facebook for some reccomendations. I got a lot, some suggested Etsy (which I have), others Bigcartel (have you heard of that?), some suggested the free "make your own website sites".... like www.weebly.com, I chose to actually blend the two, and once I realized that you can actually link the pages together {I am really dense when it comes to computers} I was super happy. Actually if you chose to sell on Bigcartel or Etsy you can link the pages to your site which is awesome because you don't loose your clients {or buisness cards don't have to be destroyed... YAY.}

This has been such a learning curve for me, I have literally either been sewing or reading up articles {Etsy, Socialnomics-Book, On-line resorces} to try and take myself to another level. I spoke to my dad and told him where I was at {UM IT IS CALLED A FUNK}, and he actually got me phone numbers of people in my area that could mentor me. I think that having a mentor is very important mainly because it offers you someone you can bounce your ideas off of, and someone who can tell you where you are either wasting your time or other contacts you can go to.

These are some of the steps that I have taken to Quit My Day Job:
1. Went to the bank and got a bank card for all of my {k.p.d} purchases
2. Took hubby to the bank so that we could find out where we are and how much we can afford to put away as our {saftey net}, as you all know I have two babies, and we own our house so I want to make sure that when I make my {leap of faith} that should I fall I have a little landing.
3. I have sat down and eliminated items I was really not feeling the groove in and then focused on items that I love to make over and over and over again. {hopefully}
4. I went to the library and got books out on small buisnesses, searched and web and most importantly found others that had similar companies as mine and guess what I E-MAILED THEM!! Asked their opinions!
5. Looked at pricing, how much is my time worth? Design item, make pattern, buy fabric, take pictures, edit pictures, upload to {shop} and then create the description, tags etc, sell item, package item and put stamps on it, then go to the post office. Obviously I don't want to do all that for one $5 item... So I sat down and reviewed the process.

This is just the beginning for me, and for you too... I love the handmade buisness, it is full of wonderful sweet and lushious items and all made by really wonderful people. I hope that this helps even just one of you.

Nursey Decor and Design

So if you follow {k.p.d} on facebook then you know that the girl bedding design was the winner in my newest baby bedding line. SO I thought I would do a little post with some of the newest trends in the "baby decor" department....

I have to admit, that vintage, and shabby chic are my favorites for little girls. The are so sweet and simply delightful. When you sit holding your sweet baby in the antique rocking chair and have the lace curtains casting small shadows I can't help but let out a small {sigh}.

Now on the other hand... mod always interests me, I love the clean neutral look, the white walls and punches of colour.

{source}I love the textures, and the plushness (is that even a word) of todays nursery decor, it isn't the same crib, change table dresser. It is reporposed dressers which double as change tables and decor that has been passed down generations.

So now I ask... what is your favorite style? How would you decorate it???

Ruffle Back Shoes

So my girlfriend just had a baby and I wanted to make a pair of shoes for her to wear.... AND we all know how I love me some {ruffles}.... and flowers...so here is what I came up with.

I love the addition of the flower, so pretty and feminine. These make me smile.

It has been almost a year since I started blogging, it has been only 8 months since I started sewing and really still getting the hang of it all. In the last few months I have been really struggling to try and find out better ways to make KPD my only form of income. I am currently reading two books which I highly recomend: Socianomics and Sociable, both teach you how to use your computer as you marketing tool. (I in no way was paid to endorse this I simply really found them interesting and helpful...)

So not sure how many of you this might help but I know I needed someone to help me, and I would love some company on this journey!!!

Okay so I have been so super buys with KPD that I have had very little time to play with new ideas BUT that is changing as I have slotted in so "free time" sewing so that I can keep my sanity!! LOL... So I really really want to do some baby bedding... But I don't have an order or a friend to do it for so I am leaving it up to you guys.... and my facebook peeps (if you don't already like it please stop by and take a look... So I had a baby shower to go to, and my girlfriend knows she is having a girl, however, has not announced the name... So a name pillow wasn't going to work. As well... I moved my studio and to be honest have lost my flow because it hasn't grown on me yet... I liked my old space... (hubby did not.)

So this was my first project in the new year. As it rains here a lot, and can just generally have an "stepped out of the shower" cold feel I thought this would be awesome... something to keep her little lady warm and I think the minky makes it so it would be a little more quite when the little one wants to sleep.

This is a really fun and easy project... okay well if you have a spare infant carseat hanging around they are.

I have two posted... this pink damask one is flannel, there is a black and white polka dot one with hot pink minky... this is the one I originally blogged about but my uploader was down... and today when I went to upload it... hubby had accidentally lost it. SUPER... oh well you get the idea.

Hi guys I am so sorry that I took a way longer break than I thought!!! Between work and Christmas and everyone in my family getting sick I have not had a chance to think.

I literally was working till 3 am the last 4 days before Christmas to get all my orders done but I was sucessful and everyone get their presents!!! YEAH!!! I have made so many personalized pillows.... that I wanted to show you all!!! Here are some I have made in the last week:

So I did this mostly in the last two weeks.... so please forgive me for not being here I am really sorry.... BUT I am back now and ready to tackle my house.... starting tonight with my basement which will be my new studio/kids area!!

Project "Toddler" Runway

So on fridays I list all my favorite items that I have come across in the week.

This friday is different....

Today I want you all to take 5 minutes.... and read this post from Amy at New Nostalgia. Amy is a wonderful woman, mother, wife (and really has a great blog too)... she is also fighting Cancer.

She is just a few years older than me, (and I am in my 20's) and she found a lump.

I am making this my post today because while I love that we all craft, and that we all make beautiful objects, I love you all so much more, and I don't want to find out that you found out too late.

Anyone at any age can get cancer, so please today take a minute to check your self ladies... go to the Dr if you have missed your appointment and tell your friends to look.

Christmas from the Kids

So every year I like the kids to put together presents that they can hand out to all the wonderful people in their lives. Just something that they can say they did and something that is inexpensive and easy.

Last year we started a tradition I hope that we keep... we did bags of hot chocolate with marshmellows. And on the bag was a little poem that reads:

The Cocoa Poem

A little cup of cocoa
We're sending your way
For you to sip and enjoy
On some cold wintry day
As you sip this cocoa
Its warmth will warm your heart
Just like your love warmed ours,
Right from the very start

Merry Christmas

Love, the kids

And because that wasn't enough I bought terra cotta planters, google eyes, brown felt (the sturdy stuff)and red pom poms and we made Rudolf for the bags of cocoa to to be placed in... and then later the little Rudolf is a candy jar.

These both make easy presents for the kids to do, with a little help, and then give away.

The Craft Fair

HEY EVERYONE!!!

So the craft fair was so much fun. It was a two day event, friday night and Saturday. After doing it I have decided that I want to do three day events... and there are many reasons which I will later talk about.

FYI this might be a long wordy post so feel free to skip it if you want... but be warned... you do and you might miss so fun stuff!!!

I was so proud of myself because I remembered eveything but my calculator (NEEDED) and my camera BOOO :( but I did take a picture with my cell phone camera and my friends camera... I just have to get them from her. I know the picture is bad quality but well deal with it... it is all I have.

I had a great corner table with some of the sweetest most amazing women out there. Nicole from Sweet Savannah actually lives really close to me and she makes these sweet little hair clips!!! And Jessica Rae was awesome, she does really sweet jewellery and photography... I know I will be placing my order soon for Christmas Presents.

Well I sold out a few items on the first night which was awesome. It was really wonderful to see what everyone liked and what they wanted to see more of. I sold out most of my aprons, posy pins, coffee cozies but not to worry I have been working hard to update my shop so by thursday I hope to have more posted!

So until I can get my photos you all will have to wait to more pictures but I will explain a little.

My Banner in the front is made of ribbon
I have a coat rack for my aprons so people could finger through them and try them on.
I got little red Christmas ornament place card holders and put my product names in them.
On everything that needed individual prices I used card stock from Michaels (and got my 50% off) so $2 and printed prices out there, and used old ribbon that I bought when I was single and tied it to the items.

2 days till the craft fair

I have been absent... I know... and my apologies are beginning to just become repetitive... BBBUUUTTT.... the craft fair is in 2 days... and from Nov 1st till today I have made 119 items!!!! Not to mention the displays!!!

But Friday and Saturday are the craft fair, I am super excited... praying that it doesn't snow!!! (if it does nobody will come because people here are AFRAID of the snow!!!

But I will be posting pictures of the craft fair, my booth, and all the items that I have been making. I know I love to see how others display their items and what they have done so I will give you a detailed run on how I have done all of my displays for $12!!! YOU WILL WANT TO SEE THIS!!!

I also have a cloth napkin tutorial for you all!!! AND best part the 12 days of Christmas Giveaways!!! So beginning Dec 1-12 I will give away an item... so there is lots in store to make it up to you all that I have been so neglectful!!!

Oh wow this week has been... interesting... Chris has been home all week because he was really sick, but NOW he is driving up to Kelowna to see his brother... leaving me.... ALL BY MYSELF ( think of that part in song)...

To understand what this house feels like right now to me is to know that I have not had a night away from the kids and hubby in 4 years and 10 months.... that is not a joke or exaggeration... I have had a night away from the kids, and a night away from the hubster but not both... SO WEIRD!

I haven't been on the computer this week... I have been busy heloing hubby and the kids and trying to get ready for the craft fair. So excited and so nervous at the same time... I have never done a craft fair before, I hope people like my stuff!

Hey guys!!! Little Peyton has been sick all week... I have been waking up at 7 and not going to bed till 2ish... so I am beat this week!!! (BUT... I did make some pretty cool new things which I will show you later)

Hey Guys!!! I think I am back.... I have been working in my studio this week... SO VERY PROUD of myself.... but... have a sink full of dishes and 2 baskets of laundry, a bathroom that needs to be cleaned and a floor that needs to be washed so I need another me around the house!!! My brother in law has a pretty steller girlfriend... she is awesome... (hint) so last week she asked for an apron, she wanted damask and she wanted black trim. I asked her to please trust me... and if she hated it I would make something different. So I did polka dots! Needless to say she loved it... the polkadot just added personality! I am so glad that she let me do this!!!

I am so sorry I have been busy. But with being sick last week, and preparing for the Christmas Craft Fair (my first one) and working full time, and the kids I have had no time to thing.... I forgot to eat one day last week, it was 4 before I even thought about it... So again I am sorry... but I thought I would share some new products with you.

My mom's homemade pizza or lasagna.... both were and still are my favorite foods.
2. What's your favorite month?
I would say December.... I am a MAJOR fan of Christmas... if it wasn't for hubby the Christmas tree would be up in November... I mean Nov 1st! Cause it goes up the last weekend of Nov.
3. What store is most represented in your wardrobe?
Ricki's Clothing Co. I don't know if they have that in the states... but it rocks!

4. How many times do you go to the movie theater each month/year? Um... Maybe 3-5 times... I know that it is not often at all, and the only reason it goes as high as 5 is because they have kids movies!

How to change to a zipper foot.

Okay so I made a zipper pouch the other day, and a follower made a comment that she didn't know how to change a zipper foot WELL... while I am not an expert here are some picture that I hope help.

Step#1: Take your regular sewing foot off, on most if not all machines (to my knowledge) have a little button like this black one that my finger is on that you simply press and your foot will "drop" off.

Step#2: Take your zipper foot, it is divided down the middle, I always use the right side, but you don't have to.

Step#3: Line the zipper foot up and mine all you do is lower the arm and the foot will pop on, however, you may need to press the little black button again to get the "claw" to open up.

I am sorry this probably makes no sense, but if you have any questions let me know. I love putting zippers in, they really are fun and easy once you just bite the bullet and give it a shot.

PS. Sorry for the mess in my pictures, I am working on more zipper pouches YEAH!!!

The Big Bag!

Monday night I was playing around with some fabric... I wanted to try a different way of doing the zipper in my zipper pouch bags... you see... the thing I HATE is the ends... they just don't seem to look the way that I want. So I added little ends to them, and then quilted the front of the bag. I used all of my new fabric and I love it.

This little big bag is awesome... standing on it's own at 7x10 inchs with a 4 inch box pleate bottom and interfacing makes this perfect for make-up, nail polish and gear, toiletry bag, kids game bag... really so many possibliies.... So I must ask... what would you use this bag for??? Do you have a favorite bag that you use???

Tinkerbell Costume

Well to my fellow Canadians Happy Thanksgiving! Now on to the fun stuff.

Peyton wanted to be Tinkerbell for Halloween, and really it was the day I had dreamed of. I would one day have a little girl and I could make her all these great costumes.... well that day has come and this is what I created.

TINKERBELL for a 2 year old.

I don't have a tutorial and I will tell you why. I had no rhyme mor reason when I created this. It literally is what happens when you leave me alone for an hour with a sewing machine, sissors and fabric... I used:

1.5 meters of both greens
.3 of a meter of the pink
sequins 1.5 meters

(and my secret... a tutu from the spring... because I was going to make a green tutu but they were all out of the green and all they had was pink... so I bought a little more and added it on the shoulders. The tutu is seperate and can be taken off and worn with other costumes or for ballet... and then the tinkerbell outfit can be less puffy)

This is so super easy and now that I have made it I think I might sit down and draw a tutorial. I am not kidding it took an hour and that is with me trying to fiqure out what I was going to do.

WOW week 6... While I am blogging about Halloween things I am in my studio creating Christmas items... but I will spare you the Christmas items until after Halloween. This weekend is Thanksgiving... yes here in Canada... we have Thanksgiving before Halloween, and then because I am a dually my mom hosts Thanksgiving again in November... THIS IS THE BEST TIME! I get Turkey 3 months in a row!

Peyton's Dresser Before and After

First I want to say YEAH and thank you so very much.... yesterday I hit 50 followers.... while that doesn't seem like a lot I never thought that I would get here... So thank you to everyone who reads my blog, makes comments and follows... I actually do go into every followers blog (if possible) and look around... You guys make me very happy!!! THANK YOU!

Last year at about this time I found a dresser for dirt cheap on craigslist... I really wanted something vintage in my little ladies room.

Well it was damaged, and it needed work and I wanted a white dresser... ALL WHITE. We moved in January and the movers did some damage breaking the mirror encasing and really just damaging the dresser.

ENTER: My daddy... (the man who calls me little pix and pixley in case you were wondering why Kate Pixley) and his amazing craftsmanship. I swear if it could be built and he had the proper material he could do it!!!

He took both Joshua's dresser (see before and after here) and Peyton's. Her dresser needed much more work and time and I think the paint that was used is really heavy duty.... as it is plastic so it won't be ruined by make-up when she is older ... I might have ruined mine that way.

So here is the before:

You can see the damage in the pictures to the tops and sides. He actually took the whole top off and shaved off about a quarter of and inch because it was so damaged.

Here is the after with mirror on top:

Isn't it pretty!!! My dad is putting a plaque on the back that reads to Peyton Love Grandpa... ( I still have my little stool that he made and put to kati love daddy 1985) So I know this will be cherished!!!

1. If you could add one room to your house, what would it be?
For sure no doubt a craft/sewing room and it would be bigger than the master bedroom and have lots of room for practical storage and BOLTS of fabric!

2. How many pillows do you sleep with at night?
I sleep with 2 pillows... one is that foam one that curves to your neck and one it a big fluffy.... I watch tv to unwind after work (I get home at around midnight) and I use big fluffy, then switch to the foam one later on... ( I am sure you have stopped reading now lol)

3. What is the best costume you've ever worn for Halloween?
I was a nurse and I made the costume... and I loved it!

4. If you could erase one item off the face of the earth, what would it be?
OHHH I don't know... that is a hard question.... I think I like the one answer I read which said to eliminate the plastic stuff that pop cans come in... because I hate seeing a bird caught in it and it really has no use!!

5. Where do you do your best thinking?
um.... watching TV or laying in bed...

Weekend Sewing Club

AS WELL I had an amazing day yesturday when I got my professional photos of my product in. YEAH so pretty!! I am so thankful that I was able to get them done. Here is what I made this weekend. I for the first time sewed with Chinelle... HMMM, not my favorite, I HATE that it crawls... no matter how many pins... it just took longer than I would like, and it rolls and curls and just isn't as much fun... but pretty outcome.

Do you guys remember last week when I revamped my address book.... well that was all in preperation for my day planner.

Every year I buy this AMAZING day planner... it is honestly the worlds best... it has everything in it that a mom could need... including games for the kids, cross words, word search and word scramble etc... so really this amazing little planner is SO MUCH MORE! And it is only $8 at Costco... so it trumps the ice cream.

Well when I ordered the fabric two weeks ago I thought FOR SURE that the Damask would be my new cover, then oh then I saw the beautiful Michael Miller Daisy Doodle Dandy and had to make it my cover.

GOOD MORNING!!!

I had a great day yesturday creating with burlap.... I have never had any to sew with so it was SO much fun to sit down and play with one of my favorite materials!!!

Okay I am so excited... I just got my shipment of new fabric in today... we don't have joannes or anything really great... we have a dinky dirty old fabric store that more times than not you buy the fabric and then have to clean it... GRRR not on my to do list! I would prefer to buy online and get nice clean fabric... and there is more selection! (at a better price... $22/meter here vs $6 yard in the states.... HMMMM!)

Gemini, and I am so like it, I have a very quiet, clean organized side and then a completly crazy, do anything messy side and hubby never knows what he will wake up too lol.

I love People and US weekly, I read Parenting, Martha Stewart, Oprah and INstyle as much as possible.

Puck if I have to... BUT I usually nair... cause really why go through any pain!

5. How often do you go grocery shopping?
Every Saturday night after work, we go as a whole family and we buy only for that week, we started this a month ago and have found that we waste less money and hardly ever throw away good food.

To all my followers, some of you new, you may not yet get me... but I am like most of you, a daughter, a wife and a mother... and a grandaughter a friend and a co-worker. But in the last year my grandma, the wonderful woman who gave me my sewing machine, and helped me get on the creative train, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Last year 4 days before Christmas she was told she had breast cancer.

She waited to tell my mom, then my mom told me.

I more than enything just wanted to hug my mom, who was like I was, heartbroken.

I wanted to hug my grandma, who was scared.

I wanted to be with them... but I couldn't because I am in Canada, and they are in Alabama.

I have kept this very private, for many reasons, then, a few weeks ago Amy from New Nostalgia, a mother of three little girls was diagnosed with breast cancer. I cried, I prayed, and I have had this on my mind for awhile. (click to read her story)

As you all know I have made aprons, zipper pouches etc. Well I have for a few months now wanted to show a way of dedication and support to finding a cure for cancer. So from now on I will donate $1 from EVERY item that sells in my Etsy shop. In a few weeks I will add THE PINK LINE which all the proceeds from the sales of these items will go to research breast cancer... I will be adding more ways to help... these are just ones I want to start right now and these are my reasons:

My Mother
My Grandma *has cancer
My Grandma H *survivor
My Grandma Goosey *passed away from breast cancer
My mother in law *survivor
My Aunt in law *survivor
My husbands grandma *passed away with cancer, I never met her.
My many aunts, and cousins

These are just women that are in my life, they make me want to find a cure, because I don't like looking at these odds.

Dream Plaque Re-Vamp Part 2...

So I was in a bit of a funk... so I decided to play with some fabric, and see about making those pretty little fabric rosettes. Well I didn't use glue... and you will know why at the end of this post... I used just a needle and thread... I actually found it SUPER easy. I was going to make something for Peyton's hair but then as I got going I really loved the idea of them on the Dream Plaque that I made back in June. At the time that I made it I really wanted a flower but didn't end up adding any... Then... today ... I DID.

Centerpeice Homework

Okay so hubby came home last night and said that he had to do a centerpeice for a cement company and the colours had to be red white and black...

I WAS SO EXCITED!!! But only had 2 hours till I had to go to work.

So we headed to the home depot and picked up a terra cotta planter, some cement, stir sticks and went home... okay actually hubby in his suit was carring it, and the bag broke... not gonna lie it looked really bad... and he wasn't too happy.

So because this company did bolders I thought I could "paint" the cement onto the planter and then add flowers in the red, white and black.

So hubby mixed the cement and I began to paint....

and this afternoon after picking it up from the flower shop... AMAZING JOB!!! I saw the black calla lilies and thought how cool... all I said was different, original and I thought black sticks would be really cool. Had I had more time I would have make cement flowers... but as it was it took the full 2 hours!!!

I wanted to keep it so bad... but had to give it away... I hope they like it!

Hot Pink and Lime Green Ruffle Address Book Make-Over

So I got a new address book this weekend... okay no, I got an address book this week... my previous address book was lined paper that I managed to keep from Christmas last year... that actually is a BIG deal because we moved after Christmas... and I loose everything.

So I made this little address book cover.... I love it... I am waiting for my new fabric to come in to make on for my "mom planner" yes I have one... but last year I lost it... probably because it wasn't cool with a cover... but now that I know how to sew I will make myself one... AND I WILL NOT LOOSE IT.

(I found it the other day when hubby cleaned the garage... he said he found it in the car and put it in the garage in January after the move... HOW DID I NOT KNOW THAT???... I bet you are asking that right now right? or you are saying stop talking kati, move on to the pictures kati... okay, so here they are)

I have been working away and just had to show you my newest aprons. The pink dandilion was for a friend and The Spooktacular is for me, however, the orange one's sister (has a orange ruffle) will be up in etsy in a few days... I ran out of fabric. I make aprons, I love aprons, and yet I do not have an apron... so this is my new baby and I made a match tea towel holder... Just makes hosting for thanksgiving and fall so much more fun... (oh and I am not weird Thanksgiving in Canada comes 2 weeks before Halloween)

So a few days ago I told you guys that I had a friend who wanted me to make her a gift for a boy and a girl... well I was going to do the personalized pillow... but instead....

It has a little pocket at the bottom for the wipes and diapers, and then closes like a little clutch. My friend always sends me ideas she finds while scouring through the the boutiques and the clutch is one she sent to me... I think from juju. But thought that it was really cool and wanted to make one!

A twist I say!!!

OKAY I know I have put alot of tea towel holders up here and I promise I will have some new stuff... but you have to see what I have been working on!!!!

So my dad's wife asked me to make her mom and aunt a tea towel holder. Vicki is very easy going and when I said what would you like she said one yellow, and one pink... those are the requirments... NOW I TRIED to talk her into giving me some more imput but...nope... she is kinda awesome like that and says anything I want will look great... (I know all other crafters will think that is cool... because lets face it... that means we can go crazy with our ideas!)

So I went with a standard potholder but I custom made it for the yellow one....

Then went crazy and tried a totally new look for the pink one....

What do you think???

Oh and while I was sewing Joshua was making his binder for school... her in ole' Canada kids start school in mis September... and they aren't out of school till late June... I KNOW!

Hello! I am so excited to be blog swapping with Kati today! This is actually my first blog swap. :) Kati is so wonderful and I am so happy she wanted to have me over for a "visit" in her world today.

First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Allison and I am from A Glimpse Inside. I am an Army wife with a creative side. I LOVE to craft, paint, sew, take photos, decorate, go thrifting and more!
The dear husband, Travis, and I are currently living in KY. We just moved here in May from our first duty station in VA. We won't be here long but we enjoy being close to our home state of TN. He is super supportive and encourages me to create anything that comes to my mind.

But enough about me... I bet you all just want me to get to the good stuff. :)

On my blog, I share pictures and stories of our life along with my crafts, recipes, thrift finds, decor, and more. I started blogging almost a year ago and it has become quite an addiction. Today, I want to share some of my favorite things that I have featured on my blog.

I LOVE to share some the the thrifty finds that make it home with the hubby and I. Here are some crates that my husband turned into a table for his "man cave."

On Tuesdays, I share yummy recipes. This one is AWESOME and a must try- Dalmatian Cupcakes.

OKAY I need your help!!!!

Okay guys I need your help, I don't know what I should do, or any other ideas. I have a friend who wants me to make her 2 girlfriends baby shower presents. One is for a boy and one is for a girl. She needs one by Sunday and one for next week (which is awesome.)

I was thinking of either:

A personalized pillow like the Sophie Pillow or Elwynn Pillow.

OR

Start something completly new and different and try something like....

A personalized baby wipe container

A baby bath towel

OR

TAG.... My first Question Answer!

1. What is one thing you just can not stand?
I don't like it when people change who they are to be friends with someone, or to be in a relationship with someone. I hate watching a friend compromise what they have believed so that they can be "right" in someone else's eyes.

2. If you could go back to your childhood, what cartoon or t.v. show would you pick to be your all-time favorite?
UM.... Tiny Toons or Bugs Bunny was a favorite, I would watch it on a portable black and white tv in the kitchen... I loved it and still do... SHHH!

3. whats something you do or have done that would surprise a lot of people?
HA HA HA... OK I was 1st runner up in a beauty pageant and Miss Congeniality. I honestly loved how I did the pageant and really found out who I was, and loved loved loved the girls I was with... all of them are so sweet!!! .... my talent was stand up comedy...

4. do you believe in ghosts?
uh, no I think they would be so cool, but unfortunately I don't. Weird enough I don't believe in them yet horror movies with ghosts make it so I can't sleep.

5. when you go into a store whats your weakness, something you just can't help yourself from buying more of?
Fabric... anything from craft stores... it changes because awhile ago it was scrapbook stuff!

6. what is the funniest story you have on your significant other?

Okay I don't really have one on him, but I have one with him... it makes me look bad but WHATEVER!

So I went to a hockey game with my hubby when I was 4 months pregnant with Joshua. I don't like hockey very much and I have no idea who the players are. So when they are playing I am usually decorating my house in my head or creating new clothes again in my head.

Well I was off in dreamland and all of a sudden our team the Canucks scored. And I drifted back and cheered the usual so hubby would think I was paying attention and actually knew what was going on. Then the screen where the score is listed came on and read G............O..............A.........L and I looked at my husband and said... loudly.... "who's Al?" and he shakes his head and says... "It says Goal"... OH THE HORROR AND SHAME!!! Whatever I chalk that one up to pregnancy brain... but anytime anyone does anything remotely stupid we shout out GO AL!!! lol

7. what is your proudest moment of being a parent? {animals do count ;)}
GEEEZE... I have so many... Well one was when Joshua was 2 and Peyton was in the hospital, he really didn't like her at all. I had to go out of the room while they checked the monitors and sign some paper work for a hospital transfer and Joshua was at my feet. The nurse did something and made Peyton cry and little Joshua ran into her room and just started to attack the nurse trying to get her away from his sister. That day he became VERY protective of his sister... and even the other day as she was climbing at the playground he cheered her on and asked her if she was okay. And then Peyton said "Joshua is my BEST FRIEND" those days and moments make me happy.

8. if you could go back and relive one day of your life, which day would you choose?
Well I would re-do my wedding... not relive it tho... This is hard because I have had 10 friends die, and I would love to go back and spend 1 more day with any of them...

What a great IDEA!!! You have to go over there and find out how she made toilet paper into these B-E-A utiful pumpikins.... they would look wonderful on my mantel!!!
Better yet if you are trying to save space these are great because you can just keep the material every year, and remake them!!! Then you don't have to have huge containers of fall decor for all your sweet little pumpkins!

Wall Decals with Fabric

DID YOU KNOW??

That you can have cute, adorable, wall decals with fabric...

All you need is:

* fabric that you love

* Iron on Adhesive, in the lite (that way it comes off if you need to without damaging the walls)

* An Iron

* A wall or door in my case that needs a little love!

This is a super easy and awesome tutorial... if you try it out please let me know and I will feature all the new wall art!!!

Step 1:
Cut out your fabric and Iron on Adhesive

Step 2:
Iron the wrong side to the shiny side (the one with out the paper, if you are unsure just follow the directions that the adhesive comes with... There are many types and if you have never used it before just go to your local fabric store and ask for it... they will know what you are talking about)

Step 3:
Trace your letters onto the back... ****REMEMBER that the letters MUST be backwards***

Step 4:
Cut out your letters

Step 5:
Pull the paper off the back and arrange them how you would like them on the wall.

Step 6:
Take out your iron (I know this part is scary) and put it about 1cm from the letter and then it will just stick!!!

Step 7:
Repeat until finished

Step 8:
Admire how you just added style and colour to your walls with very little effort and $$$.

I wish I knew about this when I rented... this would have been so much fun in a rental because if you don't like it, or are moving you just peel off the decals!!!

Art Work for the Playroom

So we moved way back in February for a couple of reasons, one was that we needed another room for the kids, Peyton is a loud sleeper and enjoys waking all those around her up. The second was we needed a room for the kids to play in. have the toys in and just generally spread out.

I'm not sure how many of you have ever lived in a townhouse but most people who live in the lower mainland, and that are around my age, live in townhouses, it is just the only affordable way of owning your own.... walls I guess you could say.

We searched HIGH and low (sorry Tyler... our realtor... OH SO PATIENT, if you are ever looking here in Vancouver he is the best I promise!!!) But anyways, we found this house after almost a year of looking, and this was unique because it had a playroom/den in the basement... I fell in love and immediately started to plot my decorating.

1 year later... (we bought in October)some Scotland Isle Green paint, some white, artwork from the past, a white floater shelf from ikea, abc frame from walmart pictures of by babies and we are 80% there!!!

hmmm.... it is still missing something.... so about 2 months ago I was blogurfing (blog surfing) and went to Ucreate's site, she featured artwork found on Make It Perfect's site, which was artwork from Leanne...

I FELL IN LOVE!!! I love words as pictures on walls and this was right up my ally.... better yet they are free!!!! So I printed them off in different sizes, 8x10,5x7 and 4x6, then went to the Dollar store and bought these frame less frames. I originally wanted big chunky colourful frames... but they were much more expensive... so these will do!

Here is the finished product:

The sofa is new, and needs a cover... gift from mom and dad!!! (thank you)

Here are some other pictures of my playroom.... again still not finished, but slowly working on it!!!

After uploading the pictures I realized how bad they look, go over and take a look at the artwork, they are bright and beautiful!!! (my favorite is the orange one on the left, you are my sunshine)

Goals

Okay so today I had to take Joshua to Sunnyhill hospital for an assessment (these suck) they are long full days, and he is in one room and Peyton and I are in another. The good thing about Sunnyhill is that it really is full of wonderful staff who make sure that you are taken care of, with toys for the kids, and coffee for the parents.

Well while I was there today I sat down and made my goals for this month.

1. Have my etsy account up by Septemeber 15th, 2010
2. Have 10 new zipper pouches and 10 new aprons done (4 being seasonal... halloween/fall/christmas).... btw this is my favorite time of year... I love the changes in the seasons... and the colours and then it ends with the best time of the year CHRISTMAS!!!!
3. Have at least 1 new pattern up and ready in PDF format to sell... (oh and learn how to do that too)

So when we came home from the long drive in the rain, both kids were asleep and I was quiet tired (and I am a bad sewer when I am tired) so I decided to create my etsy account.
Yeah so as of today I am on etsy!!!! Goal #1 Check!!!!

So please come and take a look, the yellow apron fabric is now discontinued so I only have 1 left... so if you were interested in it now is your chance!!!

A little tote....

So my mom gave me her serger last week... I KNOW!!! How excited am I... although I also know how much she loves it and will miss it... I will hug it good night mom...

But with that came a truck load of really cool fabrics... stuff from 1 month-20 years ago.

One of my favorite items was a little envelope that says "Mama's Cape" I opened it up and here on newspaper from the late 70's was a pattern for a little cape. I looked at my mom and said "so I guess this is just in my blood" looking at all the patterns my mom made, my grandma made, and, my great grandma... I hold a piece of all of them every time I cut, sew and create... xoxo to my love and inspiration, mom, grandma and great grandma (even though I never met my great grandma...)

Okay, so as well I had a zipper with a hmmmm.... orange... what to do... then a friend gave me a little fabric... THANK YOU and I went to work tonight... I am not fully thrilled, and would change a lot but this is so far what I have... the inside isn't finished... but still I wanna know what you think.

As well some of you will remember my post with my personalized necklace order... well I got it this week!!! AND LET ME TELL YOU... it is so perfect and pretty I can't even stand it... here is a picture but it isn't the best... Bead Creations said they will send me a picture as well, honestly I will so totally order from them again!!!! (Just so you all know hubby took the pic... THANKS DEAR!!!)

Birthday Specialty Apron,Oven Mitt and Cookies!!!

So I had a special order the other day for my lady lane apron and then something special, but it could be anything.... I was to be creative.... WHO ME? I know right (just for you BK)

So I did up an apron, then thought well an oven mitt would be perfect... and who doesn't love felt cookies....

So here it is...

The Oven Mitt

The felt cookies are just cut, then the little clear beads hand sewn on, then I machine stitched it... and actually they are very cute, I opted out stuffing them because when I did they looked funny... I have been trying to make cupcakes... but honestly they don't look good.

So this was awesome... made a little 2 year old happy!!!

Hi Everyone! I am so excited to be guest blogging for Kati today. Don't you love her blog? I find so much inspiration every time I look. I just love her cute projects.

I am Crystal from Crystal's Craft Spot. Its my little spot to share my current craft projects, tutorials, recipes, and ideas I want to use in the future. Every Wednesday I host a new Craft Challenge and every Friday is Feature Friday where you can link up any of your projects you've been working on. I hope you'll come join me.

Now for the fun part. I am so excited to share this project with you. Its so simple and can be done to fit any style.

Interchangeable Frame

You need:

A board -I used the back of a frame that broke. (A piece of wood, foam board, etc. would work)

Scrapbook paper

ribbon

mod podge or spray adhesive

any embellishments you want

clothes pin

Paint

glue dots or hot glue

Measure your board and cut your pattern paper to fit. Then cut a mat for the center. I made mine 5"x7".

Use a spray adhesive or mod podge to attach your paper to your board.

Paint your clothes pin (or you can mod podge paper to it for a cute look).

Attach clothes pin to your board with glue dots. Embellish how ever you want. I used rub-ons.

Add a ribbon to the back to hang

Add your favorite picture and easily switch it when ever you want.

A new purse for an evening out...

So way back in February when I had my back surgery, Chris and I also had our 3 year wedding anniversary..... BBBUUUUUTTT.... I forgot.... However I think that back surgery exempts you from lots of things including remembering your anniversary.... I remembered at about 1pm that afternoon... and called him quickly to say sorry....

That's okay.

Tonight we are going to one of my favorite performers Michael Buble, I love him and his.... um... music (and gosh is he good looking)

So we are spending the night in a really nice hotel in the city, (I live about 45 minutes from Vancouver the city.... for those of you who don't know BC very well.)

Um....

Well I have this one that my mom gave me for my grade 9 Christmas dance....

HMMMM.... I want something different, bright and funky!!!

So I took my bag of scraps and cut 28 1.5 x 2.5inch rectangles and arranged them in whatever I thought looked good... because I always go for bright bold patterns this little clutch took a new life of it's own.

I just used whatever I had and did 2 rows, I lined it with some tie die pink and gave it a little pocket for lipstick, my bff Holly gave me some clothes the other day and instead of wearing them I am cutting them up (sorry.) But that is where the blue jean came from, just old painters pants... and I love the extra embellishments.... the little pink circle is from Sophie's Pillow.... I made a mistake (okay A LOT of mistakes) creating that pillow and one of them was I ironed on Sophie backwards.... up late+ no coffee= DO NOT SEW!

So here is the little clutch...

I AM SO IN LOVE WITH IT!!!!

So I am off to shower and actually do my hair and make-up... cause this week I just was not feeling it.

Aprons and Potholders and Towels OH MY!

So I had an order on Monday for my yellow apron and one of my tea towel holders, I was told I had free reign on the towel holder....

Well as I was choosing I didn't like the options that I had so....

I made my own potholder and added a little something special to the towel...

What a big day yesterday was... I got a little message from AmieAnn at Pinkapotamus saying that she wanted to give me this award.... HOW SWEET!!! This is super exciting because it is my VERY FIRST AWARD!!!!

1. I am a citizen of Canada and the United States... I am 100% each, naturalized at birth,I love both sides... I lived in Tuscaloosa Alabama and Birmingham Alabama and went to school there until grade 3. Then moved to Prince George British Columbia and finally my destination point of Vancouver British Columbia.

2. I love flowers... my favorite are peonies and hydrangea... I love how fluffy they are.

I LOVE COFFEE, I am not someone who is in love with chocolate, sweets, chips etc... but coffee is the single most important meal/drink of my day... if you ever meet me I will either have a coffee cup in my hand, just getting a cup of coffee, just finishing a cup of coffee or (hopefully you don't see this side of me... it is not pretty) the I NEED A CUP OF COFFEE me... and right now I am drinking a cup of coffee... (oh when I saw a cup I mean a MASSIVE cup)

Zippered Pouches

Yesterday my mom and I went to the fabric store as they had 50% off (I know right!) so I did buy just a few more things, some bamboo handles... cause I need some for the purse I designed, a magnetic closure and some zippers....

Okay I am new to sewing....

and I have never. ever. ever put a zipper into anything...

So my mom showed me...

and thus my zippered pouches.

Good day guys, I am so excited to introduce you to Sarah and her wonderful blog...

I'm thrilled to be swapping with Kati today! She has such a great blog that I enjoy visiting!!

I'm Sarah. I have been married to by husband and best friend for just about 5 years. We are lucky to have 2 wonderful kids. Our son is 2 and a half and our daughter is 4 months old. I have been blogging for nearly 3 years now. Last month I decided started a new blog to showcase all the crafts and creative things I have made: Crafting and Creativity!

Since my daughter was born I have been busy making her dozens of embellishments to add to her headbands. It is a new obsession of mine...

I'm getting more sewing projects done lately since I recently got a sewing machine! I have shared some tutorials on my blog for making fun hair things, like this fabric headband , for my little girl:

I recently shared this project where I made a nursing cover out of a skirt that I had sitting in my closet. I was happy with the result:

I have been scrapbooking for more than 8 years and I love projects that I can make using my every-growing scrapbook stash, like marble magnets as well as things for my home like this bird wall art I made for my daughter's room:

I also to like do some sewing projects for my kids, or to give away as baby gifts, like this diaper holder and wipes case set. The bird stuffed toy was something I made by hand when I was expecting my daughter...

And I love creating fun projects for my son's room like this monogram using PENCIL CRAYONS! How adorable is that?!

I love "nesting"! Making our house into a home makes me so happy. I shared pictures of what our son's room looks like:

Inspiration and an all nighter....

okay so a few days ago I said that I was in a blah couldn't think of anything to create kinda mood... well on Tuesday at about 5pm I should have been making dinner but all of a sudden an idea came to me to make Peyton a play purse so that she could have something to carry with her. I had a few pieces of white, and a small bit of pink and thought I would just sew and see where it took me.

Well this is what I came up with in the 15 minutes I had to sew.

So this was just s simple little play purse... but I stayed up till 3:30 in the morning designing all these different handbags, wallets and camera cases I had all these ideas and last night was able to head to the fabric store for an hour....

Here is what I walked out with....
Some will be handbags, aprons, camera cozy's and some are who knows... like the purple/teal one... the lady had a .5 of a yard and asked me if I wanted it for .50 cents.... of course I said yes.

So I promise I will have more posts next week...(maybe if the kids sleep I can finish some projects today and post) tomorrow I am guest posting so I am extending the APRON GIVEAWAY until Saturday... I hope you don't mind.... just wait a little bit longer!!!

BLAH... a bib and camera case.

Okay I am sorry guys I have been looking at my blog for a few days and just haven't been able to post... I am having a blah day(s). It has been raining, and on Sunday I was having a pretty bad day with my back, and was mainly laying down on my bed, Monday I worked and my back was so bad I actually didn't bathe my babies... I did this morning tho because I felt so guilty.

I have so many great idea's but just not able to fully execute them... I have one fabric but not the other, I don't have either elastic, snaps, or Velcro. So I hold off on the project all together because I don't like half finished projects.

I did make a bib and another experimental camera case today because I found some flannel that I purchased a few months ago on sale. Have you ever seen those rag quilts... well I have one for little Peyton which was a baby gift, and I have loved it. So now that I have a machine and am learning to sew I thought I would give the bib a try. And because I just had to know how it would look I made a Rag Quilt Camera Case... which is actually really cute because I am all about ruffles, and I find this technique gives the ruffle look.

So here they are... no I didn't put a button on this camera case because I am not sure if I want a snap or Velcro... as I said in another post I wasn't in love with the button I put on my original Camera Cozy. The first picture is before I washed it, and then the next one is after it was washed and put in the dryer to make it nice and ruffley (is that even a word?)

Here is Elwynn's bib but I didn't wash it yet... I might but who knows I might give it to Angie and let her wash it and have the ruffle suprise.

Lastly, I have ordered my fabric lables and they are on their way AAANNNDDDD have started work on my website so that all my products will be up and for sale YEAH!!! So I will be working hard and taking pictures for all of you to see.

Towel Hanger Tutorial

Hey Guys I posted this tutorial over at Crystals Craft Spot but I really wanted it in my list as well so I am posting it here too!!!

Here is the tutorial for how to make a perfect towel hanger for your kids room... I wanted something unique for my kids rooms and I stumbled across a blog Aly&Ash and she had this great idea. I made one for Joshua's room and one for Peytons: Here is the easy 30 minute craft you all can do.

Supplies

-Wood frame from Michaels or your local craft store
-Mod Podge
-Sponge Brush
-Scrapbook paper of your liking
-garnishments (a letter, ribbon, Pearls or rhinestones)
-Dresser knob of your choosing from your local hardware store
-An adorable picture of your baby!

Start off by tracing your frame onto your paper

Then cut it out and take the mod podge and place a thin layer all over the front of the frame... I used a thin layer with Joshua's frame and then a thicker layer with Peyton's and it wasn't as nice...I don't have pictures but I was actually disappointed at first and almost started over.

Let it dry

Add a thin layer on top of the paper

Let it dry

Add another thin layer

hmm... and you guessed it let it dry

Then add your letter or pearls or whatever you would like... I chose to mod podge my picture to the cardboard backing but you don't have to.

The last thing that you will do is drill a hole through the frame and place your knob on... I don't have a picture because... OK the truth... my husband moved my craft stuff from the kitchen island to the dinning room table, in that move the screw for my glass knob was lost... I looked all over then in frustration I super glued it to the frame... and it worked like a charm!!! I searched for weeks for the right embellishment, I looked a ribbon or more paper but then stumbled across these pearls and I love it...

Here is Joshua's...Again He loves soccer but has a red white and blue room...

Now for the fun part! Today I'm going to share with you how to make a simple growth chart. I LOVE growth charts and have been wanting one for a long time. However I just couldn't bring myself to pay for one. (sad I know). Recently I saw a board laying around and I knew it would be perfect for this project. I made mine to fit all of our kids measurements on one board (fun to compare!). With that in mind I made mine gender neutral (maybe one day we will have a boy:) and with plenty of space to write. I love this project because you can easily customize it to fit your taste and decor. Here's how I made mine.

You need:

a long board (what ever size you want)

paint

paint pen

pattern paper

mod podge

Paint your board. Sand the edges to distress a bit

Decide what number you want to start and stop on. Mine goes from 1.5 feet to 6 feet. Use a paint pen to mark your lines, I did every inch.

Cut out your numbers from pattern paper. I used my cricut but you can easily do it by hand or with the computer. Attach with mod podge. (apply a layer on your board. Place your paper where you want it. Then apply another layer of top of your paper.) You can embellish it any way you want. My board is really skinny so I kept it simple. Remember you want room to write your children's measurements.

Here's my finished board. I still need to attach a hook or ribbon to the back to hang.

A Cozy Case for My Cell Phone

As I posted earlier I made a Camera Case for my new camera that I got this weekend... well I decided that my blackberry which has been abused but loved deserved a little pretty spot... So I took some of my Peonie Pins and Sophie Pillow fabric and created a pretty little gem of a Cozy Case.

Even though I have used this fabric a lot I still like the patterns and the colour combinations....

In case you were wondering, yes my phone has pictures of my kids on it, I ordered it from a store called TEGO and you can upload your pictures, use words and generally create awesome skins for your phone. I uploaded a picture I love of my babies and all the words that they were speaking at the time. I have Ma (Peyton, Mummy (Joshua) bye bye, love you, hello and puppy... as well as their names... I am so in love with it... and I really want to protect it and I have noticed that it is really starting to take a beating in my purse... another reason for a Cozy Case... hmmm... what else could I make these for OH I know and Ipod... hubby has one of those... guess I will have to make it a little more masculine.

New Camera Needs a Case.... DONE!

Hello All!

So this weekend my hubby and I bought a inexpensive camera (which I love) as just a quick point and shoot, take to the park and beach, have to lug around in my purse just for those kodak moments. Well being inexpensive it had no camera case and it needed one... so being the new crafty that I am I whipped one up between breakfast, snack, potty training and all other things mommy....

I have always wanted a red camera... so here is a picture of my camera... I think that it really likes it's new home.

Here is how I made this:

I actually just placed my camera on the fabric, folded it as though it was in a case and then gave a 1/2 inch seem allowance. I then cut two strips of fabric same size, then quilting batting in the same size as the fabric... Quilted the opink fabric to the batting... then sewed the green fabric on top of the pink, I left an opening and then pulled it out like a pillow... then sewed around the edges and did an elastic for the button.... I did a blind stich for the button. Honestly I think I will do a real button hole for my next one... not in love with the way this one sits...

The Tea Towel Holder... 10 minutes to Sanity!

Okay so in our new house my hubby liked to place the tea towel on the oven handle, my dog, cat and two babies like to remove it, Peyton used it as a veil or cape and Joshua used it to play with the dog, the cat used it to sleep on and I refused to use it... so I needed another option. While in recovery my mom would clean my kitchen and house and she would place it through the top cupboard handle. Now that I am a bit better I saw a similar idea with a knitted top... but I KNOW I CAN'T KNIT! I can sew yes but knitting is just um... no... so I used a pot holder... a button and a tea towel... now we never have the tea towel on the floor.

All you do is baste your tea towel down the middle, then pull the bobbin thread to make it ruffle, then sew it to the pot holder. Do a blind stitch for the button and DONE!!! 10 minutes to Sanity!

I made these for the teachers at Joshua's school, and one for my mom, mother in law and friend (Elwynn's mommy)and she was going to give it to her son's teacher... but she fell in love with them just like I did... really once you use it you can't help it!!! They are fabulous and everyone who sees it will say how awesome they are!

PS. I have the blue towel in my kitchen... love the colours for summer... and I added a lady bug button!!!

I stumbled across Bead Creations International and have fallen in love.

The New but Old Dresser

When I found out I was pregnant I knew I what I wanted as a theme for my babies room. I have always loved the stars and moon, my grandma who lives in Alabama (and I in Vancouver Canada) said when we moved here that no matter where I am in the world I can always look up to the moon and know we are looking at the same moon, the same stars and we can do that together every night. This created an obsession of staying up all night looking at the beautiful.

For Joshua's nursery I painted two walls a bright blue and two walls a navy blue, I then stenciled stars on the wall... I then took my dresser from when I was a little girl which was white and painted the navy blue for the dresser and the light blue for the drawers. I took the stencils and did the stars on the dresser. I loved this look so much that when we moved I re-did the room in our new house. But again we moved and it is time for a change and to move on. So I gave the dresser back to my dad who is the most amazing wood worker and he revamped it.

I chose a bright red for the dresser as Joshua's new room is in a red white and navy blue, and I wanted new metal cup handles. My dad fixed the drawers and as well as plugged the old holes for the handles and painted the whole dresser with a special plastic paint that makes it so that it is highly durable.

While I am still working on his room and waiting for Chris to paint at least the dresser is done... so here after all that take a look!!!

Dollar Store Remake... And Giveaway!

Don't forget about the GIVEAWAY ending today!

I am making little projects here and there for Peyton's room... Chris spent a lot of time painting our new house (thanks babe) and then a few weeks ago he did Peyton's room. A light shade of pedal pink... look at a light pink peonies and that is the exact colour... this room will take time... especially because my back has a mind of it's own... so it will have to be a collection of small projects.

Okay... so the rant is done.

I found this little sign the other day at the dollar store and I fell in love with it... it is cute in black and white but I wanted something a bit different for Peyton's room. So I took the primer and the pink of her room... so scrap fabric I had hanging around and here is it.

I painted it with the primer because I wanted to cover the black as well as I didn't want a gloss to it that the other white in my house would have. After that was all dry I painted the pink over top and along the edges, I wasn't at all particular how the pink went on because I wanted that type of shabby look.

Afterwards I found some of my favorite fabric and cut three strips of it put a safety pin through one side and just braided it. I looked around for my stapler (cause I have the worlds best) and couldn't find it... (thanks babe) so I just super glued the ribbon to the back where the old ribbon was.

I really like how this turned out... I saw a few other signs there... who knows maybe I will get some more!
